Unlocking Insurance Coverage

Discover how you can utilize your insurance policy to cover or receive reimbursement for your medical wig purchase.
Step by step guide: How do I receive coverage through my insurance company?

Step 1: Inquiry

Call your insurance company. It is crucial that you use proper terminology when inquiring about the coverage of your medical wig. Do not use the words "wig" or "hair replacement". The correct terminology includes "cranial hair prosthesis" or "cranial prosthetic".
Ask your insurance the following questions:
1. “Do you cover a cranial prosthesis?”
2. “How much of the cost will my plan cover?”
3. “What terminology is needed on the prescription?”
4. “What insurance HCPSC code is needed on the sales receipt?”
Step 2: Prescription

Schedule an appointment with your medical provider to receive a diagnosis pertaining to your hair loss. This can be done by a primary doctor, dermatologist, nurse practitioner, or oncologist. Once your visit is finished, you will leave with a prescription for "cranial hair prothesis." The insurance companies will deny you for the wrong prescription description so it is vital that your doctor uses the correct terminology.
Step 3: Invoice from us

Schedule a appointment with us under "medical wig consultation". During this appointment we will take measurements and match color. We will bring in a wig based off of these specs that is perfect for you. You'll receive an invoice listing "cranial hair prothesis", the total, date purchased, and most importantly, the medical code. The invoice will also list our studio information needed for your insurance company.
